Business Model Deck | Decision-Making Cards

Why use this method?

Asking the right questions at the right time is one of the oldest and most direct paths to knowledge. It is also the fastest way to make informed decisions. However, information is not always available in a structured way, and the challenge becomes even greater when working in teams.

That’s why this method exists. It provides a structured and collaborative approach to accessing the information you need, empowering teams to make better decisions. This is the RED Method (Reflect, Explore, Decide), created and designed by David Almazán

What will you find in this deck?

This method is designed for anyone who manages teams, from CEOs to team leaders. If you've ever asked yourself "How can we improve team decision-making?", this presentation is for you.

You’ll use Osterwalder and Pigneur's Business Model Canvas framework to reflect, explore, and decide on critical aspects of your business model. The goal? To foster collaboration and enhance decision-making through structured questions. Tip: Keep an open mind! The true value of this method lies in how you adapt and apply it to your unique context.

What will you receive?

You will receive a link to access a digital whiteboard in Figma with detailed instructions on the RED method and how to apply it to the Business Model Canvas to speed up decision-making with your team. Copy it and start collaborating with your team.

How to apply this method?

  • Kick-off: Choose a single working mode to focus on your business model
    • Reflect (R): For sharing, gathering, or evaluating information
    • Explore (E): For proposing or prototyping ideas
    • Decide (D): For selecting, validating, or concluding

  • Set a timer: Determine how long you’ll spend in the chosen mode (t.), then flip the corresponding cards (c.) to begin. For example, let’s reflect on the business canvas for 20 minutes (c.R).
    • Note: Use the cards designed for each mode. They’re the core of this method, crafted to guide your team’s discussions and activities.

  • Take Action: During the chosen time slot, freely add or remove notes and sketches on the shared whiteboard to address your current mode (Reflect, Explore, or Decide).

  • Time’s up!: What's next? Choose one: [1] Keep going (extend the current time), [2] Switch focus (go back to Kick-off and pick a different working mode), or [3] Take a break

Recommendations

  • Adapt the order of the working modes to suit your needs.
  • Stay focused on each mode to minimize distractions.
  • Embrace new questions without losing focus.
  • Ideally, assign a moderator and a timekeeper.
  • For multiple teams, limit to 7 members each per group.
  • Use voting to achieve consensus during Decision mode (D).
  • Leverage Break mode (B) for rest or team-building activities.
